What Turns a Chai Latte Into a Specialty Chai
Every drink in this section is chai concentrate, a sweetened black tea infusion with cinnamon, cardamom, clove and ginger, mixed with milk. The specialty versions then add one of three things: a flavored cold foam, a flavored syrup, or both. The chai itself already carries around 30 g of sugar in a Grande, so the additions stack on top of a sweet base.
That is why the numbers spread so far. The Pumpkin Spice Chai adds only a syrup and lands at 260 calories. The Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai adds a syrup and a dairy cold foam and reaches 400.
| Drink | What it adds to the chai | Grande calories | Grande sugar |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pumpkin Spice Chai | Pumpkin spice sauce, hot | 260 | 43 g |
| Iced Mango Cream Chai | Mango cold foam | 310 | 41 g |
| Iced Banana Bread Chai | Banana syrup, brown sugar cold foam | 350 | 48 g |
| Iced Lavender Cream Chai | Lavender cold foam | 380 | 48 g |
| Iced Orange Cream Chai | Orange cream cold foam | 390 | 48 g |
| Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai | Pumpkin cream cold foam, pumpkin spice topping | 400 | 55 g |
The Seasonal Chai Calendar
Almost nothing in this section is available year round. The pumpkin pair runs from late August until the holiday menu arrives in early November. Lavender belongs to spring, orange cream and mango cream to summer, and banana bread was a late-summer launch. A store can also sell out of a foam base before the season ends, so the app is the only reliable check late in a run.
- Late August to early November: Pumpkin Spice Chai and Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai.
- Spring: Iced Lavender Cream Chai.
- Summer: Iced Orange Cream Chai and Iced Mango Cream Chai.
- Late summer into fall: Iced Banana Bread Chai.
Pumpkin Spice Chai
The Pumpkin Spice Chai is the only hot drink here and the lightest. It is a chai latte with pumpkin spice sauce in place of some of the sweetness, and it comes in all four hot sizes from a 60 calorie Short to a 350 calorie Venti. Caffeine is 55 mg in a Grande, all from the tea.
- Why choose it: the pumpkin latte flavor without espresso, at a fraction of the caffeine.
- Best for: an afternoon fall drink, or anyone who finds the PSL too much coffee.
- Nutrition tip: two pumps of sauce instead of four and the sugar drops noticeably.
The Cold Foam Chais
Five of the six specialty chais are iced chai lattes with a flavored cold foam. The foam is sweetened cream blended to a thick pour, and it explains the gap between the Iced Chai Latte at 190 calories and these builds at 310 to 400.
The Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai is the one people ask for by name and the heaviest at 55 g of sugar. The Iced Mango Cream Chai is the lightest of the foam builds. All five sit at 60 mg of caffeine, so the choice is about flavor and sugar, not strength.
| Item | Size | Calories | Fat | Carbs | Sugar | Protein | Sodium |

| Iced Lavender Cream Chai | Grande | 380 | 16g | 50g | 48g | 8g | 170mg |

Specialty Chai vs Classic Chai vs Pumpkin Spice Latte
The Chai Latte is the reference point at 200 calories and 31 g of sugar in a Grande. Every drink here adds to that. The Pumpkin Spice Latte is the espresso equivalent at 390 calories and 150 mg of caffeine; the pumpkin chais have a third of the caffeine and a similar calorie band.
If you want the seasonal flavor and the least sugar, the hot pumpkin chai is the pick. If you want the cold foam experience, the mango cream chai carries the least of the group.
Ordering a Lighter Specialty Chai
- Light foam or no foam: the cold foam is roughly a third of the calories on the iced builds.
- Fewer pumps of chai: a Grande gets four pumps of concentrate; three keeps the spice and trims sugar.
- Nonfat or almond milk in the chai itself; the foam stays dairy regardless.
- A Tall instead of a Grande on the pumpkin cream chai saves the most of any single change here.
- Skip the pumpkin spice topping; it is small but it is sugar.
No specialty chai declares an allergen beyond dairy (none declared); the foams contain milk and cream, so none of the iced builds can be made dairy free with a milk swap alone. Chai concentrate itself is dairy free.
