What Is on the Starbucks Trending List Right Now?

The Trending tab is not a fixed category. Starbucks refreshes it as launches land and as order volume shifts, so the drinks below are a snapshot for early fall. Most arrived with the late August fall release, two are carryovers from the summer energy line, and one, the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, is a permanent item that simply never drops out of the top sellers.

ItemPriceCalories
Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai$6.55 (Grande)400 cal
Iced Banana Bread Matcha$6.95 (Grande)330 cal

The prices shown are pickup prices from Starbucks (Northgate Way & I-5), Seattle. Starbucks sets prices per store, so read them as a reference point rather than a national figure.

Why Each Trending Drink Is Trending

Every drink here has a reason it is moving. Some ride the pumpkin calendar, some are brand new flavors, and two are the energy drinks that pulled in a crowd that used to skip Starbucks entirely.

Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai

The Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai is chai concentrate and milk over ice, finished with pumpkin cream cold foam and a shake of pumpkin spice topping. It is the heaviest drink on the list at 400 calories and 55 g of sugar in a Grande, and it still outsells most of the espresso pumpkin drinks because it does not taste like coffee.

  • Why it trends: it is the pumpkin order for people who do not want espresso.
  • Caffeine: 60 mg, low enough for late afternoon.
  • Price: the reference store lists a Grande at $6.55.

Nutrition tip: skip the pumpkin spice topping and ask for light foam. The chai underneath stays the same and the sugar drops.

Iced Banana Bread Matcha and Iced Banana Bread Chai

These two are the new flavor of the fall lineup. Banana syrup goes into an iced matcha or an iced chai, then brown sugar cold foam sits on top with a crumble finish. The Iced Banana Bread Matcha runs 330 calories and the Iced Banana Bread Chai 350, both in a Grande. New flavors always spike in the first month, and banana is a flavor Starbucks has rarely used, so curiosity is doing a lot of the work.

  • Why they trend: a new flavor with a dessert name and a foam topping photographs well.
  • Pick the matcha if you want the greener, grassier base; pick the chai if you want spice.
  • Both cost $6.95 for a Grande, the highest price on the list besides the energy drinks.

Best pairing: neither needs a pastry. If you want food, a plain croissant is the only thing that will not fight the banana.

Iced Chaider

The Iced Chaider is chai concentrate shaken with apple juice over ice, no milk. At 90 calories and 30 mg of caffeine in a Grande it is the lightest drink on this page by a wide margin, and it is the only one that comes in a Trenta.

  • Why it trends: it reads as fall without cream, foam or espresso.
  • Dairy-free by default, so no milk swap is needed.
  • Trenta pricing is $6.95 at the reference store.

Nutrition tip: this is already the light option. Do not add classic syrup; the juice carries enough sugar.

Iced Pecan Crunch Latte

Blonde espresso, pecan syrup with a brown butter note, milk, ice and a pecan crunch topping. The Iced Pecan Crunch Latte is the fall drink for people who find pumpkin too sweet, and it carries 170 mg of caffeine against 380 calories in a Grande.

  • Why it trends: it is the coffee-forward fall option, and pecan has a loyal following from previous years.
  • Blonde roast keeps the espresso soft, so the pecan flavor leads.
  • Sugar sits at 43 g, less than any pumpkin latte.

Best pairing: a butter croissant or the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin if you are already in fall mode.

Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso

This one is on the list every month. The Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso shakes Blonde espresso with brown sugar syrup and cinnamon, then tops it with oatmilk. It is 150 calories in a Grande with 255 mg of caffeine, the most on this list, and 15 g of sugar.

  • Why it trends: strong, light and dairy-free by default, which is a rare combination on the menu.
  • Three shots in a Grande, so it doubles as a morning coffee.
  • Price: $6.55 at the reference store.

Nutrition tip: it is already one of the lighter espresso drinks. Ask for fewer brown sugar pumps if you want it drier.

Pink Energy Drink and Mango Strawberry Lemonade Energy Refresher

The energy line is the reason two non-tea, non-coffee drinks sit on a fall trending list. The Pink Energy Drink is strawberry and coconut milk shaken with freeze-dried strawberries, 140 calories and 125 mg of caffeine in a Grande. The Mango Strawberry Lemonade Energy Refresher is the juice version, 180 calories with the same 125 mg.

  • Why they trend: caffeine without coffee flavor, which pulled in students and afternoon orders.
  • Both go up to Trenta, and the Trenta is the value size at $7.45.
  • The lemonade version has 39 g of sugar in a Grande, so it is the sweeter of the two.

Nutrition tip: the Pink Energy Drink with light ice and no extra pumps is the lower-sugar way into the energy line.

Trending Drinks Compared

Set side by side, the list splits into three groups: heavy fall drinks around 350 to 400 calories, an espresso drink and two energy drinks in the middle, and the Iced Chaider on its own at the bottom.

Verdict: for caffeine, the shaken espresso wins and nothing else is close. For the lightest fall flavor, the Iced Chaider. For a treat, the Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai gives you the most for the money, but you pay for it in sugar.

How Long Each Trending Drink Will Stay

Trending status and menu availability are different things. A drink can fall off the Trending tab and still be sold; a seasonal drink can trend right up to the day it is pulled.

Caffeine Across the Trending List

Caffeine is the number that separates these drinks more than calories do. The shaken espresso, the pecan latte and the two energy drinks are real caffeine; the chai and matcha drinks are mild.

ItemSizeCaffeineCalories
Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken EspressoGrande255 mg150 cal
Iced Pecan Crunch LatteGrande170 mg380 cal

Iced Banana Bread MatchaGrande55 mg330 cal
Iced ChaiderGrande30 mg90 cal

If you want a fall flavor with almost no caffeine, the Iced Chaider is the answer. The banana bread matcha and chai are both under 65 mg in a Grande, roughly a cup of green tea.

Lightest Trending Orders

Ranked by Grande calories, the light end of the list looks like this.

  • Heavier choices to watch: the Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai at 400 calories, the Iced Pecan Crunch Latte at 380, and the Iced Banana Bread Chai at 350.
  • Every foam-topped drink loses 35 to 70 calories if you drop the cold foam.
  • Tall sizes are the easy cut: the Tall Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai is 310 calories against 400 for a Grande.

My Take After a Week of Ordering Down the List

I ordered each of these once over a week, all Grande, all as listed. The Iced Chaider surprised me the most: it tastes like spiced apple juice, which sounds odd until you have it cold on a warm September afternoon. The banana bread chai was better than the banana bread matcha, because the spice gives the banana something to sit against.

The shaken espresso remains the drink I would order again without thinking. The pumpkin cream chai is very good for about half a cup, then the foam is gone and you are left with sweet chai. The energy drinks are fine, but I would not pay Grande money when the Trenta costs so little more.
