Starbucks Coffee Traveler Menu USA

A Coffee Traveler is the Starbucks answer to a meeting, a team breakfast or a tailgate: a 96 fluid ounce insulated box of brewed coffee, enough for twelve 8-ounce cups, with cups, lids, milk, sugar and stir sticks in a bag. Both versions here cost $22.05 at Starbucks (Northgate Way & I-5), Seattle.

This page covers what comes in the box, how the per-cup cost compares with buying twelve coffees, how to order one ahead so it is ready when you arrive, and the difference between the regular and decaf boxes.

What Is in a Starbucks Coffee Traveler

The box itself is a lined cardboard carrier with a pour spout that keeps the coffee hot for about two hours. Inside is 96 fl oz of brewed coffee, which works out to twelve Short cups or roughly eight Tall cups. The store packs a service kit: hot cups, lids, sleeves, sugar and sweetener packets, stir sticks and a carton of 2% milk unless you ask otherwise.

Two coffees are on offer at the reference store. The Pike Place Roast Traveler is the everyday medium roast, and the Decaf Pike Place Traveler is the decaf version at the same price. Many stores will fill a Traveler with Blonde or the featured dark roast if you ask when you order.

Traveler Cost per Cup vs Buying Coffees

The box is priced as a bulk product. Twelve Short brewed coffees bought one at a time would cost twelve times the Short price of $3.75, which is nearly double the Traveler. Eight Talls at $3.85 each still cost more than the box.

OptionServingsReference store priceCost per 8 oz

Twelve Short brewed coffees12 x 8 oz12 x $3.75$3.75
Eight Tall brewed coffees8 x 12 oz8 x $3.85about $2.57

The per-cup figure in the first row is the box price divided by twelve; the others are the store's listed cup prices. Once a group passes six people the Traveler is cheaper, and it removes the queue.

Calories are effectively nil for either box, at 5 per 8 oz cup, and the milk and sugar in the kit are where any calories come from. The caffeine column is per cup: the regular Pike Place pours 155 mg per 8 oz serving, and the decaf 15 mg. For a mixed group, one of each is the usual order.

How to Order a Traveler

  • Call the store or order in the app under Brewed Coffee; most stores ask for 30 minutes notice and prefer a call for more than two boxes early in the morning.
  • Say which roast. Pike Place is the default; Blonde and the featured dark roast are usually possible on request.
  • Ask for the kit or decline it. Offices with their own cups can skip the paper cups; the milk carton is worth keeping.
  • Plan for two hours. The box holds heat well but not indefinitely, so pick it up close to when it is needed.
  • Rewards Stars apply. A Traveler earns Stars like any purchase in the app, and a registered card can pay for it.
  • Tea and hot chocolate boxes exist at some stores under the same format, though they are not on the reference store's menu.

Who the Traveler Is For, and Allergens

It suits any group of six or more that would otherwise send someone to stand in line with a list: office meetings, morning sports, volunteer shifts, a hotel room on a family trip. It is a poor fit for a small group, since 96 ounces of coffee does not keep past the morning and the box is not resealable.

The coffee declares none declared. The milk in the kit is dairy, and the store can swap it for oat or almond cartons where stocked. Sugar and sweetener packets are individually sealed.
